The National Press Club Journalism Institute is starting a reading group for people who love journalism and books and want to discuss them both.
The first book we’ll discuss is “Susan, Linda, Nina & Cokie: The Extraordinary Story of the Founding Mothers of NPR.” Be sure to register for an event on Thursday, April 29 with author Lisa Napoli and NPR journalists Susan Stamberg, Nina Totenberg and Linda Wertheimer. You can buy the book at the same time; NPC members get a discount.
The reading group’s first virtual meeting will be Thursday, May 13 at 6 p.m. ET, and we’ll discuss the prologue through Chapter 5 of the book. The gatherings will last one hour and take place over Zoom, and you can drop in just once or join every time. The group is open to all. We hope to bring together a group with different perspectives on the books we read and diverse lived experiences that teach us all about reading through together.
There will also be a Slack channel available to participants so we can continue talking when the group isn’t meeting.
Please RSVP here if you’re interested in joining the reading group. Participants will receive a calendar invitation with the reading schedule and the Zoom link. Contact Julie Moos at [email protected] with questions.
This group, “Reading Through,” builds on the success of “Writing Through,” the Institute’s writing group for nonfiction authors. If you’re interested in learning more about that group, please email Julie Moos at [email protected].
