The National Press Club Journalism Institute is excited to welcome Kris Seavers as its new training program coordinator. Seavers started on March 16.
Seavers brings to the role more than a decade of experience in digital media, including a track record in both newsroom leadership and journalist development. At The Daily Dot, a news startup, she directed training for the staff while leading culture coverage and managing the internship program. She brings deep expertise at the intersection of identity and online communities.
In addition to her leadership experience, Seavers has contributed to NPR, Complex, The Infatuation, Austin Monthly, San Antonio Magazine, and other outlets. Her work reflects a commitment to helping journalists grow their skills and better understand the audiences they serve.
“I’m thrilled to bring my digital news leadership and journalism training background to the Institute,” Seavers said. “I’m a fervent believer in the power of education to uplift journalists in their work and protect press freedom at a time that’s more critical than ever. I’ve seen the Institute’s incredible accomplishments, and I’m excited and humbled by the opportunity to support the Institute team and mission.”
In her role at the Institute, Seavers will help deliver high-impact training programs for journalists at all stages of their careers, strengthening the tools and resources available to newsrooms while navigating a rapidly evolving media landscape. Seavers will work closely with Training Manager Elliot C. Williams, who leads training strategy for the Institute.
“In the few weeks since she’s started at the Institute, Kris has already proven to be a wonderful team member,” said Williams. “She’s full of innovative professional development ideas, proficient in design and web production, and is a skilled writer. We’re fortunate for Kris to have joined us at such a consequential moment for journalism support and training.”
Seavers holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Texas at Austin.
